Manchester United could be on red alert this summer as Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens looks set to leave the Bundesliga club following a frustrating spell under manager Niko Kovac.

The 20-year-old enjoyed a strong start to the 2024/25 season, racking up seven goals and four assists before the winter break.

But in recent weeks, his form has dipped, and he has lost his place in the starting eleven — a situation that has reportedly led to the player asking for a move away.

Gittens, who joined Dortmund from Manchester City in 2020, has made 100 senior appearances for the German side, contributing 17 goals and 12 assists.

His early promise saw him tipped as one of the next breakout stars in Europe, and his name has frequently appeared on Premier League scouting radars.

Sky Sports state that Gittens has already communicated his desire to leave to the Dortmund hierarchy. The club, currently eighth in the Bundesliga and at risk of missing out on European qualification, are said to be open to selling the youngster if the right offer comes in.

That development could open the door for United, who have previously been linked to the 20 year old.

While Dortmund had previously valued Gittens in the region of €100 million, they are now believed to be willing to accept a significantly lower fee, especially if they fail to qualify for Europe and need to recoup lost revenue.

The Englishman has admirers across the Premier League, with clubs monitoring the situation closely.

Bayern Munich have also shown interest in the winger as they look to reinforce their wide options, but a return to England may appeal more to the player.

Whether United decide to act will depend on how their summer recruitment plans unfold, particularly in light of financial constraints and the club’s ongoing rebuild under INEOS.

Despite his desire to move, Gittens is under contract at Dortmund until 2028, and the German club are in no rush to offload him if a suitable offer does not materialise.
