Spurs started much the better, quickly getting a hold of the ball, having more than 70% possession in the opening five minutes, with Leicester appearing to set themselves up to counter attack early on.

The Foxes had Wilfred Ndidi to thank for keeping them level from a corner shortly after. The midfielder did brilliantly to clear the ball from a corner just as Dominic Solanke was about to tap home on his debut.

Cristian Romero was the next to come close, his header just going wide of the post from close range.

It felt inevitable that Spurs would score such was their dominance of the ball and the chances. They had seven corners to Leicester’s zero in the first 20 minutes.

Spurs got the goal their play deserved just before the half hour mark when Pedro Porro ghosted into the box and headed home a dangerous James Maddison cross.

Maddison was arguably the best player on the pitch against his former side, and was Spurs’ main creative outlet in the first half.

The second half continued in much of the same vein with Leicester struggling to get back into it.

Solanke should have possibly done better with a shot inside the box after doing well to fashion the chance as Spurs looked to seal the win.

Spurs regretted their missed chances shortly after when Jamie Vardy headed home at the back post from Abdul Fatawu’s cross. It is now eight goals that the Leicester captain has scored on the opening day of the Premier League.

Vardy almost got another 10 minutes but fired straight at Guglielmo Vicario after getting himself into the box. The mood of the entire game changed with that one goal as so often happens.

There was a moment of concern with 20 minutes to go when Rodrigo Bentancur was knocked unconscious after a clash of heads. Thankfully, he regained consciousness before being stretchered off to a very nice reception from the home fans.

Archie Gray came on for the Uruguayan, while Lucas Bergvall also got his Spurs debut as Ange Postecoglou changed things up in hope of a winner.

Richarlison, who also came off the bench, really should have won the game with the final header of the game but he got it all wrong.

Spurs were left to rue their earlier missed chances and had to settle for a point against a Leicester side, who showed great determination in the second half to get their season off to a good start.
