The Fulham man impressed during a loan spell with Birmingham City in the previous campaign, as he netted 12 times in 43 appearances for the Blues in his first taste of Championship football.

The striker’s pace, movement and clinical nature in front of goal immediately endeared him to the St Andrew’s faithful, and it is no surprise to see a number of clubs join the race for his signature this summer.

With that in mind, here we take a look at all the latest news surrounding the former Exeter City man, as his future gets decided in front of the public eye.

Birmingham City begin talks about permanent deal for Jay Stansfield

Despite their relegation to League One, Birmingham have been splashing the cash this summer, and are said to have set their sights on brining Stansfield back to the Midlands before the transfer window shuts.

Having been a shining light during a tumultuous season at the club, the Blues are desperate to bring the striker back to the club this summer, and help fire them back to the Championship at the first time of asking.

The Blues are said to be in talks regarding a transfer deal for the Premier League man that could reach £6 million, as they do their utmost to try to bring him back for a second stint at the club.

Having already brought 23/24 League One top scorer Alfie May in last month, City will have plenty of firepower in their ranks if they do make the deal happen, although they will face competition from clubs higher up the football pyramid.

But after spending the previous 12 months with the club, the Blues could pull on the frontman’s heartstrings to win the race for him this summer, in what would be a massive coup for the third tier side.

According to a report from BBC Sport, Cardiff City have joined the clubs interested in a deal for Stansfield, as the Welsh side look to add to their attacking ranks this summer.

The report goes on to state that the Bluebirds are looking for two new strikers in the transfer window, as Erol Bulut looks to give his side more of a cutting edge in the final third of the pitch.

That had left to initial interest in the Fulham man, who still has three years left on his contract at Craven Cottage, with a deal that currently lasts until the summer of 2027.

Despite that, Marco Silva’s side are said to be open to letting the forward leave this summer, which has led to Cardiff joining Birmingham in the battle for his signature.

While Birmingham and Cardiff may be the leading pair in the Stansfield race as it stands, the news coming out of Craven Cottage may well have reignited interest from other Championship sides.

Alfonso Leocadio revealed on his X account on Monday morning that Leeds United are long-term admirers of Stansfield, but as of yet there have been no reports that the Yorkshire club have made an approach.

The journalist also goes on to state that Hull City are also interested in the striker this summer, as Tim Walter looks to add to his squad after his arrival onto Humberside, although no offer has been made at time of writing.
