According to Fabrizio Romano, Marseille are set to complete a deal to sign Jean Onana (23) from Besiktas. The 23-year-old midfielder is set to join Les Olympiens on loan from the Turkish club until the end of the season. The deal will also include an option to buy which is not mandatory.
After the two respective clubs have agreed to a deal, the Cameroonian midfielder is set to travel to the South of France in the next 24 hours to complete a medical before putting pen to paper as a Marseille player, Fabrizio Romano reports. The former Lens midfielder is set for an instant return to Ligue 1.
Marseille have had a strong desire to recruit a midfielder in the January transfer window. With several absentees due to AFCON participation and injuries to key players in midfield like Valentin Rongier, Gattuso sees midfield as a vulnerable area within his squad. Les Phocéens had targeted Rennes’ Nemanja Matic (35) and Inter’s Lucien Agoumé (21) before having a change of heart and setting their sights on Onana.
