Dundee United manager Jim Goodwin has said that he can have no complaints about the result after losing to Celtic last night. The Scottish Champions ran out 2-0 winners on a bitterly cold night under the lights at Paradise but the Irish manager felt his players gave everything in the match.
Speaking to BBC Scotland after the game, the United boss said he was disappointed with the first goal but was pleased by his players and their response to going behind.
“The players definitely weren’t at 100% in terms of energy levels so the game plan had to be about conserving energy.
“It was working for large parts. We’re disappointed with the first goal, I think we cause our own problems. I don’t know if there was a handball in there but Luke McCowan has the shot, Jack Walton makes the save and I think it takes a really bad bounce in front of him.
“The players kept going that was the really pleasing aspect, they didn’t throw the towel in. We had one or two opportunities to put the ball into dangerous areas but none of those opportunities fell kindly to us in the box.

“We can’t have too many complaints about the result, the players gave absolutely everything.
“We have to dust ourselves down over the next 48 hours and put a good team on the park to go and win the game on Saturday.”
Celtic went ahead through Daizen Maeda, who was the first to react in the box after the effort from McCowan was parried by Walton. Despite all of Celtic’s possession, the Celts were unable to find a second until the closing stages of the second half, which eased the anxiety within the ground.
United face Goodwin’s former club, St Mirren, at the weekend while Brendan’s side face the long journey up to Dingwall to face Ross County. There may be some some question marks around that fixture given the forecast for the next few days but it is a potentially hazardous trip and one that Brendan’s team will be keen to collect three points in.
