Barcelona will not sign many players this summer, but they will be busy in trying to agree new contracts with several stars. The likes of Pedri, Gavi and Pau Cubarsi signed deals earlier in 2025, and soon, it will be the turn of some of their teammates.

Joan Laporta speaks on Raphinha situation

Raphinha is one player that Barcelona will look to renew, and as president Joan Laporta told La Vanguardia (via MD), this piece of business is a priority.

“What Flick has done with Raphinha is extraordinary and he has emerged as captain of this team. He even campaigned by handing out stickers so that they would vote for him. In addition, in the city he is also very comfortable. Closing his continuity is one of the pending issues that we have for these next days or weeks. We don’t want to have any player who has one year left on his contract. We want them to have more years because they have earned it and because we are also interested as a club in maintaining this group, which is a winner.”

Laporta expects Frenkie de Jong to stay

Frenkie de Jong is also one of the players on the agenda, with his situation having taken a U-turn in recent months. Laporta sees the Dutch midfielder wanting to stay.

“I think he’s having a good time. Even when you don’t win, people have a worse time, and he also had an ankle injury. He especially likes to be 100% fit. And because he is also a man who runs a lot, who has a lot of courage, who sets the pace of the games. Now he has recovered and we are working on that contract renovation. He is very excited, we are very determined to do whatever is necessary to keep him going, and well, he is fixing some of his things, personal, professional, and when this is already fixed, we will be able to announce that he continues with us.”

Wojciech Szczesny also wanted by Laporta

Laporta also spoke on Wojciech Szczesny, who sees his Barcelona contract expire at the end of this season.

“We want him to continue. The other day he was celebrating the victory by smoking a cigar. I saw him wanting to stay. We also have good goalkeepers in the reserve team and in youth football.”
