Talks of a potential move to Bayern Munich for Joe Gomez have been played down with the German giants eyeing up Johnathon Tah of Bayer Leverkusen.

Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany has described any rumours linking Joe Gomez with a move to Bayern Munich as 'wide of the mark' and that it is going to take something extraordinary for Bayern to express their interest in the Liverpool defender.

It is understood that until that extraordinary moment happens, it's either Bayer Leverkusen's Johnathon Tah or nothing for that position despite Gomez' versatility potentially proving valuable given Bayern offloaded Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs De Ligt to Manchester United last week.

Even though Bayern Munich are one team confirmed not to be signing Gomez this summer, it wont be a surprise if we see the 27 year-old depart Anfield as he seeks regular first-team football. A flurry of Premier League clubs are interested in the England international.

Gomez was not included in Liverpool's squad for their visit to Portman Road where they defeated Premier League newcomers Ipswich Town 2-0 courtesy of goals from Diogo Jota and Mohammed Salah. It is understood this is because Gomez is currently exploring potential transfer options ahead of this summer window's deadline.

Whilst away on Euro 2024 duty with England, Liverpool struck an agreement with Newcastle in a deal which would have seen Gomez move to the Magpies with Anthony Gordon coming to Anfield, in a bid for Eddie Howe's side to overcome their PSR issues. Gomez, as well as Gordon, expressed their happiness in this deal and were awaiting to undergo medicals in Leipzig, before Newcastle found an alternative PSR solution.

A move away from Merseyside looks likely for Gomez ahead of the upcoming deadline with Liverpool not stopping Gomez from exploring what's out there, despite the club preferring to keep the versatile defender at the club.
