Joey Barton has now been found guilty of assaulting his wife.

A much delayed court case concluded, concerning an incident that happened almost four years ago.

It was back in July 2021 that Joey Barton was charged with assault (see below).

Now he has been found guilty and given a suspended sentence.

‘Former footballer Joey Barton has been found guilty of assaulting his wife.

The incident happened at the family home in southwest London in June 2021.

Barton, 42, was convicted at Westminster Magistrates’ Court and given a 12-week suspended sentence.

The court heard he left Georgia Barton, 38, with a lump on her forehead and a bleeding nose after an incident at a house in Kew, southwest London.’

With the new season only a couple of weeks away, the Bristol Rovers manager has been charged with assault by beating after a woman suffered a head injury.

Joey Barton to appear at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on Monday (26 July 2021).

The charge relating to an incident that took place at a residential property in Kew (London) on Wednesday 2 June.

The Metropolitan Police statement reads:

“Joseph Barton, 38 (2.9.82), of Widnes, is due to appear on bail on Monday, July 26 at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court charged with assault by beating.

“The charge relates to an incident which took place at a residential property in Kew on Wednesday, June 2 in which a woman received a head injury. London Ambulance Service did not attend.

“A 38-year-old man was arrested on June 2, bailed pending further enquiries, and subsequently charged.”
