John Obi Mikel has taken aim at Chelsea captain Reece James and claims he can’t have a go at his team-mates because of his injury record.

It’s been another difficult campaign for James, who has suffered yet more injury problems after missing almost five months of last season with a hamstring injury.

The 25-year-old has been limited to just ten appearances in all competitions, with seven of those coming as starts meaning his impact on the team has been limited.

Mikel slams James

Chelsea are currently on a poor run of form and have won just two of their last nine Premier League games, and didn’t manage a single shot on target in Friday’s defeat against Brighton.

The Blues have now slipped to sixth in the league following wins for Manchester City and Bournemouth over the weekend, although they are still just a point off the top four.

A lack of leadership and experience has really shown over the last few weeks, and former Blue Joe Cole has hit out at the club signing a lack of experience.

In those difficult moments on the pitch Chelsea don’t have the leaders or experienced heads to step up and help guide the younger players.

James is one of the more experienced players and the club captain, but Maresca criticised his leadership skills earlier in the season, and now Mikel has taken a swipe at the England international.

“Do you think that Reece James can talk to Enzo Fernandez,” he told his Obi One Podcast.

“He has been injured half of his Chelsea career. He can’t go to another player and say, “you need to do more”. He needs to be in the f*cking pitch.”

Chelsea will be hoping that James can stay fit for the remainder of the season and contribute as the Blues look to qualify for the Champions League, which appears to be an uphill battle at this stage given their current form and injuries.
