According to a report from L’Équipe John Textor-owned Botafogo are interested in hiring Dunkerque manager Luis Castro for the currently vacant spot of head coach at the Brazilian club. The Copa Libertadores winners have reportedly entered talks for the Portuguese manager of the Ligue 2 side, who have been one of the success stories of the season in the second tier and the Coupe de France. Les Maritimes have been guided by Castro to a fifth spot in Ligue 2 this season so far, with an attractive style of play that has fired them right into the race for the promotion play-offs. The side from the North last week knocked out Lille in the Coupe de France last 16 on penalties, qualifying to face Champions League side Stade Brestois in the quarter finals in around two weeks time. Dunkerque Sporting Director Demba Ba told L’Équipe however that he doesn’t see Castro leaving the club any time soon when he was contacted about Botafogo’s interest. “Our coach is 100% committed to our project. He is very important because of his daily contribution to the sports sector (he extended last month until 2027), of course, but he also perfectly represents our values. I don’t see him leaving our ship,” said the former Chelsea and Newcastle striker when contacted by the French paper.GFFN | George Boxall
