After tying the menās national teamās all-time scoring record against the United States on Saturday, the Lille forward opened up on his future in a one-on-one interview with The Athletic.
The 24-year-old was previously linked with Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester United. The Blues notably held talks with Davidās camp over a potential transfer.
āIt just didnāt happen,ā David said regarding agreeing a deal elsewhere. āThere were a couple of offers and we just didnāt finish the deal, thatās it. I spoke to a couple of teams. I spoke with coaches. But ultimately made the decision to stay.ā
The Canadian went on to explain the Premier League is on his radar but hinted a stay at Lille is in the mix with contract negotiations ongoing.
āWhat am I waiting for? I guess now itās easier to say. Iām in the last year of my contract. Eventually my contract is going to run out,ā David said.
āRight now weāre speaking with the (Lille President Oliver Letang) about a possible extension ā¦ Weāll see how that goes.ā
āIām open to anything,ā David added. āI think obviously the Premier League is regarded as one of the best league in the world. And for me itās not the Premier League or bust. Iām open to anything and every league has its challenges.ā
Canada will face Mexico on 10 September, where David will look to score his record-breaking 30th goal.
