Canada striker Jonathan David has revealed he could be staying with Lille despite big-name interest from the Premier League.

After tying the menā€™s national teamā€™s all-time scoring record against the United States on Saturday, the Lille forward opened up on his future in a one-on-one interview with The Athletic.

The 24-year-old was previously linked with Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester United. The Blues notably held talks with Davidā€™s camp over a potential transfer.

ā€œIt just didnā€™t happen,ā€ David said regarding agreeing a deal elsewhere. ā€œThere were a couple of offers and we just didnā€™t finish the deal, thatā€™s it. I spoke to a couple of teams. I spoke with coaches. But ultimately made the decision to stay.ā€

The Canadian went on to explain the Premier League is on his radar but hinted a stay at Lille is in the mix with contract negotiations ongoing.

ā€œWhat am I waiting for? I guess now itā€™s easier to say. Iā€™m in the last year of my contract. Eventually my contract is going to run out,ā€ David said.

ā€œRight now weā€™re speaking with the (Lille President Oliver Letang) about a possible extension ā€¦ Weā€™ll see how that goes.ā€

ā€œIā€™m open to anything,ā€ David added. ā€œI think obviously the Premier League is regarded as one of the best league in the world. And for me itā€™s not the Premier League or bust. Iā€™m open to anything and every league has its challenges.ā€

Canada will face Mexico on 10 September, where David will look to score his record-breaking 30th goal.
