The Blues will be competing in the third tier of English football for the first time since 1995 after coming 22nd in the table last year.

Chris Davies has been appointed as manager, and will be tasked with ensuring the club spends just one year outside of the second tier.

Davies was previously the assistant manager to Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham Hotspur prior to making the switch to St. Andrew’s.

The 39-year-old has also been an assistant coach with Brendan Rodgers at Leicester City, Celtic, Liverpool and Swansea City.

But this is his first time taking on the mantle as the main man, so he will be hoping to achieve success and further his career.

Here we look at two dream scenarios Davies and supporters would love to see this week…

Jordan James contract extension

Jordan James is one of the most exciting prospects to come through the academy and remain at St. Andrew’s for the last few years.

However, speculation persisted over his future prior to the club’s relegation last season, and being in League One only worsens the Blues’ likelihood of keeping him.

Birmingham have shown a lot of ambition this summer, and are taking their promotion battle for next year quite seriously with their business in the transfer window.

But keeping someone of James’ calibre around could be just as important as any potential incoming.

The 20-year-old has been linked with a move to Italian side Atalanta, but a new contract would put an end to any questions over his immediate future.

This would be huge for supporters, and would be a great show of faith in the project being built by the owners and Davies.

James is a Championship quality player, if not maybe even a top flight level talent, so convincing him to remain in League One would be a huge boost.

Tying him down to a longer-term deal would also ensure that his transfer value would remain high, with his current contract expiring in 2025, with an option for an extra year.

Harrison Burrows signing

Harrison Burrows has become the subject of intense transfer speculation this summer following Peterborough United’s failure to gain promotion to the Championship.

Birmingham have reportedly joined the race for his signature, despite also being in League One themselves.

If they can lure him to St. Andrew’s then that would be a real coup for Davies’ side given how well he performed last season.

He contributed six goals and 14 assists as the Posh finished fourth in the table, standing out as one of the best in his position in the entire division (all stats from Fbref).

Beating the likes of Preston North End or Sheffield United to this signing would be a really exciting moment for supporters, and show how seriously the club is approaching life in League One.
