Fenerbahçe have confirmed the stunning appointment of José Mourinho as the club’s new head coach.

In what has already been a busy summer of changes in the dugout, this might just be the most eye-catching yet with the former Manchester United, Chelsea and Real Madrid coach joining the Turkish giants.

Mourinho has been out of the game since being sacked by Roma in mid-January but has now decided to make Istanbul his new home.

The club posted a brief clip on Saturday evening featuring the 61-year-old sharing his excitement about the move. “See you tomorrow,” said Mourinho. “Let’s start our journey together.”

Fener sacked former coach İsmail Kartal after he narrowly missed out on the Süper Lig title to arch-rivals Galatasaray despite earning 99 points and losing just one game.

The club will hope their big move will lead to trophies, and it’s a good bet considering Mourinho’s well-deserved reputation as a serial winner.

He has won league titles in England, Portugal, Italy and Spain and has also won four European trophies – the 2022 Europa Conference League with Roma, the 2017 Europa League with United and two Champions League titles with Inter Milan (2010) and Porto respectively (2004).
