Robert Lewandowski’s form in recent weeks has grown into a concern at FC Barcelona and is sending signals that the veteran may be running out of steam ahead of a critical period for the club.

Given the Polish striker’s recent dip, the topic of Barcelona potentially signing a new striker has once again entered the scene and the Catalans have been linked with several potential candidates.

One of the names that has sounded the most for them, needless to say, is Jonathan David who would love to sign for the Catalans.

A new hurdle

Barcelona’s stance on the signing of David has always remained controversial, for some within the club hierarchy see him to be relatively untested at the highest level.

Many also believe that his profile may not fit well at the club which plays a possession-dominant style of play and does not attack many spaces.

Now, according to AS, Jose Mourinho has entered as the latest factor distancing Barcelona from the young striker as he plans to lure David to Fenerbahce soon.

Al Nassr have made it a priority to rope in the Turkish side’s mainstay Youssef En-Nesyri in January and Fenerbahce boss Mourinho thus see David as the ideal profile to fill the void.

They may push for a transfer as early as next month, although Lille’s president has made it clear that they will not sell the player until June.

The 24-year-old forward’s contract runs out in the summer and he will be available as a free-agent.

With Fenerbahce now pushing, Barcelona must make a decision soon if they are to stand a chance of hitting the jackpot first.
