Jose Mourinho appeared to grab the nose of Galatasaray boss Okan Buruk after seeing his Fenerbahce side beaten in a hot-tempered derby clash.

Mourinho’s Fenerbahce were knocked out of the Turkish Cup at the quarter-final stage following their 2-1 defeat to rivals Galatasaray.

Victor Osimhen scored a first-half double before Sebastian Szymanski pulled one back for Mourinho’s team.

There was a dramatic ending to the game when tempers flared and Fenerbahce’s Mert Yandas, along with Galatasaray’s Kerem Demirbay and Baris Yilmaz were sent off despite not ending the game on the pitch.

And that was followed by Mourinho clashing with Buruk when the former Chelsea, Manchester United and Real Madrid boss grabbed the nose of his opposite man in the dugout.

Buruk was sent tumbling to the ground after having his nose pinched before both sets of players rushed to get involved, and Mourinho was dragged away by a member of his coaching team.

This is not the first time Mourinho has been embroiled in controversy since taking over at Fenerbahce.

Galatasaray accused the Fenerbahce boss of making “racist statements” earlier this season and claimed they would take legal action, an accusation Mourinho strongly refuted and Fenerbahce responded stating they would take legal action of their own for a “baseless accusation”.

The Portuguese boss has hit the headlines for his outspoken criticism of Turkish football this season too, especially when it comes to refereeing.

After his side’s 2-1 win over Hatayspor earlier this season, Mourinho said: “I don’t speak Turkish but sometimes I learn words by repetition, I listen so many times to certain words and I learn them by repetition.

“Yesterday, everybody was saying the same thing. Scandal, scandal, scandal. I learn a new word. Scandal, scandal, scandal.”

He has also claimed he would not have taken the Fenerbahce job had he known the “whole truth” about football in the country.
