Josip Šutalo has acknowledged that Ajax have had a poor start to the season. However, the Croatian defender is confident that the Amsterdam club will be able to recover.
Ajax signed Šutalo from Dinamo Zagreb in the summer, paying over €20m for the 23-year-old. Speaking to the Croatian medium Germanijak, he said ‘It is clear that we are in some kind of crisis, and everyone who came last summer has international commitments. I don’t want to go into details, it’s probably a matter of internal conflict. We are aware that the results are not at Ajax level and it is up to us to fix that.’
Josip Šutalo had the choice of several clubs in Europe during the summer. ‘I don’t want to go into that at all. I have had a number of concrete offers, including from serious clubs. I chose Ajax because I think it is the best option for me. Because it’s a big club and I’m sure I didn’t make a mistake. This is a crisis that happens at every club. I am sure that Ajax will soon be back where it should be: at the top.’
On Tuesday, it was reported that Josip Šutalo was suffering from homesickness and that he wouldn’t even spend time with his fellow countrymen Jakov Medic and Borna Sosa. Responding to the claims, Šutalo said ‘I find that strange, because I am with them all the time.’
