Two trophies have been name-dropped as clear targets for one of Manchester City’s first-team stars this season, alongside personal support from his closest teammates.

Pep Guardiola and his players broke yet more records during the last campaign alongside other silverware success, becoming the first side in the history of the game to win four consecutive English top-flight titles.

The triumph over Arsenal, and Liverpool earlier in the Premier League title race, made it a staggering six top-flight titles won by Guardiola since arriving at Manchester City in 2016, coupled with a FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup double in the 2023/24 season.

But for one Manchester City star, who won the Premier League for the first time last season and at the first time of asking, more silverware success is being demanded for the now-ongoing 2024/25 season.

Speaking to Manchester City’s official club website, Josko Gvardiol also stressed how much he is enjoying life in Manchester, despite the surprise of the weather in comparison to his native Croatia.

“I like it a lot – it’s much better in the summer because the winter was really cold, and I was surprised by that,” the 22-year-old said of the north-west city. He continued, “Moving to the UK was an adjustment, but I enjoy learning about a new culture.”

“While I miss my loved ones back home, my teammates, especially Mateo (Kovacic), have helped me settle.”

Gvardiol has also outlined two trophies in particular that are being eyed as major targets for him this season as he explained, “I’d love to help the team win the Champions League and win the Premier League again to make Manchester City the five-time champions.”

Manchester City signed Josko Gvardiol fresh off the back of claiming their first UEFA Champions League title in the club’s history, having beaten the Croatian and RB Leipzig en route to the showpiece final in Istanbul.

A single goal from Rodri in the Turkish capital ensured that Pep Guardiola would complete his haul of trophies at Manchester City and win everything available to him by the end of his seventh season at the club.

The 2024/25 season brings about a fresh challenge for all clubs competing in the UEFA Champions League, with European football’s governing body reformatting the competition by replacing the traditional group stage with a new ‘league phase’ consisting of 36 teams.
