Rennes’ marquee €8m summer signing Jota (25) looks increasingly close to leaving the Brittany Ligue 1 club already. The Portuguese winger has been dropped from Jorge Sampaoli’s matchday squad to face Marseille. Rennes host Roberto De Zerbi’s Les Phocéens tonight at Roazhon Park for Ligue 1’s matchday 17. Ouest-France reported on Friday that the former Celtic FC cult hero will leave Stade Rennais this transfer window and join a foreign club. Jota signed a three-year deal last summer.

Jota doesn’t feature in Sampaoli’s plans with the winger yet to make a single start since the Argentine manager arrived as a replacement for the dismissed Julien Stéphan. According to L’Equipe, Sampaoli confided his matchday squad was complete – barring Alidu Seidu – which speaks volumes about Jota’s role within Les Rouge et Noir. Jota featured ten times for Rennes so far this season, scoring Rennes’ equalizing goal during their away 1-1 draw against Brest.
