Though Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Real Madrid at the Emirates Stadium was arguably one of the best nights the club have ever had at the ground, the one reason to stay calm afterwards was that there’s still a second leg to come.
Arsenal aren’t in the semi-finals yet, with Mikel Arteta admitting his players had been telling each other as much in the dressing room.
“They were talking about it immediately,” Arteta confirmed. “It’s just half-time, and we’re going to have to be even better in Madrid to go through.”

Jude Bellingham was equal parts disappointed with Real Madrid’s performance and impressed with Arsenal’s, telling the media that his side were lucky to only lose 3-0.
“We were nowhere near it,” Bellingham said. “That’s the fact, and Arsenal were really good. I know that two of their goals were free-kicks and really good individual pieces of delivery, but to be honest they could have had way more. We are lucky to get away with three.”
Yet the England midfielder was also insistent that Real Madrid can still turn things around at the Bernabeu next Wednesday.
“There is a second leg, that’s the thing we are kind of holding onto,” Bellingham added. “We are going to need something unbelievably special, something crazy really. But if there is only place where crazy things can happen, it’s our house. You never know.”

Bellingham wasn’t the only one insisting Real Madrid aren’t done yet after the game, with defender Raul Asencio saying: “We are absolutely convinced we can make a comeback. If there’s any team that can do it, it’s us.”
If there’s any team in world football you can’t be complacent against in a Champions League tie, even with a big lead, it’s Real Madrid. Their players know it, the Arsenal squad know it, there’s still a lot of work to do.
