Former Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio gives his take on the Serie A title race, and insists Inter Milan remain the favorites to prevail.

The Nerazzurri started the campaign as the defending champions after lifting the Scudetto trophy last term.

Simone Inzaghi reached the finish line with five fixtures to spare, leaving their foes in the dust.

While Juventus were in striking distance in January, their mid-season collapse ended all hopes of a genuine title race.

Nevertheless, the current campaign promises to be comprehensively more exciting, at least based on the first 12 rounds. Only a couple of points are separating the top six clubs at the moment.

Napoli are leading the charts, just a single point ahead of Atalanta, Fiorentina, Lazio and Inter. Moreover, Juventus are right behind in sixth place.

Therefore, Marchisio is expecting this season to be much more balanced than its predecessor. However, he believes the reigning champions remain the favorites to emerge out of the dust.

“There are teams that are much more ready now and built to win trophies,” noted the legendary Juventus midfielder in his interview with Tuttosport via FcInterNews.

“So yes, I would say the title race will be balanced. There are those who have had more games than others, those who have suffered more injuries. Those who need to find the right set-up, perhaps with a new coach…

“Nevertheless, I put Inter ahead of all the others, including Napoli,” concluded the retired Italian international player.

The Nerazzurri and the Partenopei clashed heads in the final Serie A fixture before the international break.

Neither side was able to get a decisive advantage of the other, as their contest ended in a fairly balanced 1-1 draw.
