Juventus Loanee Unlikely to Be Bought Out by Porto

Tiago Djaló didn’t win over two separate coaches during his short time with Juventus, Massimiliano Allegri and Thiago Motta, and things haven’t gone too well for him during his loan spell at Porto either. He has been deployed basically only in the Europa League.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, the defender will most likely head back to Turin in the summer. The Portuguese side doesn’t have an option to buy. The hopes of including him in the deal involving Francisco Conceiçao are very slim. The Bianconeri aren’t too sure about keeping the winger either.

Juventus beat Inter to the punch to acquire Djaló from Lille in January of 2024, spending €5M including bonuses and commissions. Instead, the Nerazzurri would have added him for free in June. He didn’t play for months to complete his recovery from an ACL tear at first.

Motta and the Bianconeri officials took another look at him last summer and eventually decided to loan him out. He has featured 17 times with Porto this campaign but has featured in just 8 league matches. He had started decently and was even called up by Portugal, debuting in November. The Old Lady will have a decision to make this summer since he had only signed a two-year contract originally, so it’ll expire in 2026.

Our Take on Juventus and Djaló

The sums were pretty low, but such an acquisition surely hasn’t gone as they expected. On the other hand, they are in such dire straits in the back that there’s a non-zero chance they might have to lean on him in the Club World Cup. He might not be the worst fit in a three-man line.
