At the Allianz Stadium in Turin, Juventus hosted Verona in the final fixture of Serie A Round 27. The Bianconeri dominated the action from start to finish, but had to wait until the final 20 minutes to break the visitors’ resilience. Lorenzo Montipo pulled off a host of saves before finally conceding the opener through Khephren Thuram and then a late second from Teun Koopmeiners. So here are our player ratings for Juventus who have now returned to title contention thanks to a 2-0 win over Verona.
Michele Di Gregorio – 5.5
The Italian goalkeeper was almost a bystander throughout the match, but was left absolutely stranded on Tomas Suslov’s outrageous disallowed goal.
Timothy Weah – 6
A solid shift from the American who made the right flank his. However, his display lacked a marquee moment.
Federico Gatti – 6.5
The Italy international looked composed at the back, although he didn’t have much to do. Darted forward repeatedly but couldn’t hit the target when provided with the opportunity.
Lloyd Kelly – 6.5
The Englishman is growing familiar with his surroundings. These quiet days at the office certainly help his settling process.
Andrea Cambiaso – 7.5
The Man City target was outstanding all over the pitch. Won his duel with Suslov and was a menacing presence on the left wing. Provided the assist for the opener, and could have grabbed a few more had his teammates been more prolific.
Manuel Locatelli – 7
A commanding display from the Juventus captain who was more adventurous than usual, but just couldn’t find the back of the net. Orchestrated the play for his team and picked up Cambiaso on the ‘pre-assist’ for Thuram’s goal.
Khephren Thuram – 8
A formidable display from the man of the hour in Turin. The Frenchman was dangerous from the get-go, but after losing out to Montipo on a couple of occasions, he managed to break the deadlock with a clinical shot.
Kenan Yildiz – 6.5
An impactful display from the Turkish teenager who connected well with his teammates, but just lacked the final touch.
Weston McKennie – 6
A hard-working display as ever from the USMNT star who operated in the hole but was all over the pitch. Was one of several stars to test Montipo but to no avail.
Nicolas Gonzalez – 6
The Argentine worked tirelessly on the wings and tried his luck on a few occasions. But like Yildiz, he needs to be more decisive.
Randal Kolo Muani – 6
The Frenchman made himself available for his teammates and did well to hold up the play, but he could have done more with the couple of chances that came his way.
Juventus sneak back to Scudetto race by beating resilient Hellas Verona
Teun Koopmeiners – 6
It was a listless cameo from Dutchman until he sealed the win by scoring the second with a shot that one would have expected Montipo to save.
Alberto Costa – 6.5
An impressive outing from the January signing who won back possession on the ball that directly led to the second Juventus goal.
Pierre Kalulu – 6
The Frenchman made his return from injury but didn’t have an awful lot to do.
Samuel Mbangula – 6.5
The Belgian provided the assist for Koopmeiners. A lively cameo overall.
