Juventus terminate Wojciech Szczęsny's contract by mutual consent | OneFootball

Juventus have announced that goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny will leave the club after terminating his contract.

The agreement was reached this week between both parties after discussions throughout the summer.

The 34-year-old, who has been with the club for seven seasons, still had another year to run on a deal worth a reported €6.5m per season.

Due to that high salary and Szczęsny no longer being considered number one after the arrival of Michele Di Gregorio, the club were keen to remove his salary from the books, and had received no offers from other clubs to purchase him permanently.

An agreement has been reached which will see the Pole receive a significant severance package, per La Gazzetta dello Sport, albeit one that is still well short of the amount he was due to receive for the final year of his contract.

“When a team that has given you so much asks for a helping hand, you should be able to do it,” he told reporters in Poland earlier this summer when asked about the possibility of terminating his contract to assist with the Bianconeri’s finances.

There is interest in the former Roma man from MLS, Saudi Arabia and fellow Serie A side Monza.
