Kane and Dier bag their first titles

Harry Kane and Eric Dier are finally Bundesliga champions, claiming the first major titles of their careers as Bayern Munich Munich secured the league this weekend.

Kane was sidelined for Saturday’s game at Leipzig, where Bayern nearly sealed the deal. Despite going 2-0 down, they pulled level in under a minute and took the lead through Leroy Sané, only for Leipzig to snatch a late equaliser in the 95th minute.

Still, with a huge goal difference advantage over Bayer Leverkusen, the title was pretty much in the bag. And when Leverkusen only managed a 2-2 draw at Freiburg on Sunday, Bayern were officially champions again.

It’s the first bit of silverware for Kane and Dier, and they’ve joined a pretty exclusive club - only five English players have ever won the Bundesliga.

Before them, only three English players had ever won Germany’s top-flight title. Kevin Keegan was the first, lifting the Bundesliga with Hamburg in 1978/79. Then came Owen Hargreaves, who picked up four league titles during his seven years at Bayern.

The third was Omar Richards, who made a surprise move from Reading to Bayern in 2021. He didn’t feature much, but still ended up with a winner’s medal in the 2021/22 season.
