Moise Kean wants to ‘do my talking on the pitch’ after scoring in Italy’s 2-1 win over Israel, ending a three-year goal drought, and assures he has the right attitude now.

His last Italy start was over a year ago, whereas he hadn’t found the net in three years, since September 2021.

He was in the right place at the right time to meet the rebound from a parried Giacomo Raspadori effort, after Davide Frattesi had opened the scoring getting his chest to a Federico Dimarco cross.

“I returned to help the team. I was always at their disposal, although I had a lot of injuries last season and I wasn’t in the best shape,” Kean told RAI Sport.

He is only 24 years old, but already well-travelled with Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and Everton, but now hopes to make his mark at Fiorentina, where he already scored three goals in five competitive games.

“I like to do my talking on the pitch. The squad and coach welcomed me to Fiorentina, coach Spalletti gave me another opportunity today to prove myself. It was important for me to repay that faith.”

Kean’s attitude was a problem for Italy

The striker had come off the bench in the 3-1 win away to France at Parc des Princes and showed the kind of determination he has been too often lacking in past appearances.

“It was important to keep hold of the ball, France are a very physical side, so I had to be aggressive. We are a really united group and we fight for each other.”

In that win over France, Kean protected the ball at the corner flag when surrounded by defenders.

“They tried to get the ball off me, but I knew it was important to prevent counter-attacks.”

Italy delegation chief Gianluigi Buffon is another one of those figures who has backed Kean to finally fulfil that early potential.

“Gigi’s presence is fundamental for the team. When it’s a champion like him, you must always listen to his advice. Plus he’s known me since my first steps in the Juventus team.”
