Kei Kamara has addressed CF Montreal supporters after having the extension option in his contract taken up by the club.
Kamara's deal was due to expire at the end of 2022, but after the veteran striker scored an impressive return of nine goals and seven assists in 32 MLS regular season appearances (14 starts), Montreal decided to keep him around for another year.
Following the announcement, Kamara took to social media to apologize to Montreal fans for the lack of communication since his option was picked up due to things 'needing some ironing', though he still affirmed his commitment to the club.
"Montreal, thank you for the messages and I am sorry you have not seen my excitement about my option being picked up," Kamara wrote on Twitter, continuing: "Because there are things needing some ironing, but I promise my heart is still with you and [I] can't wait to bring the whole Kamara Family next season."
Kamara's form in 2022 helped CF Montreal finish right up in second in the Eastern Conference, returning to the MLS Cup Playoffs after a one-year absence. The Canadian side then beat Orlando City 2-0 in Round One before falling 3-1 to NYCFC in the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals.
