Jonathan Hogg's playing career at Huddersfield Town has come to an end following the conclusion of the League One season
Huddersfield Town owner Kevin Nagle has hinted that Jonathan Hogg may have a future with the club following his release.
The 36-year-old’s time as part of the Terriers’ first-team squad came to an end with the conclusion of the regular League One campaign last weekend.
The midfielder featured in the 4-1 defeat to Leyton Orient, which has proven to be his final appearance for the Yorkshire outfit.
Hogg joined Huddersfield in the summer of 2013, and has been a crucial part of the first team in the 12 years since, even becoming captain in 2021.
Nagle has posted a message on social media about Hogg, claiming that the two have spoken since confirmation of his departure from the club as a player.
He has hinted that there could yet be a future for him at Huddersfield in a different role, which the 36-year-old has previously spoken about.
“What a great meeting with the General,” wrote Nagle, via his personal X account. “Class act all the way around. Always a Terrier!”
Hogg made 34 appearances for the club in League One this season, including 19 starts, but was unable to help the team reach the play-offs.
Huddersfield endured an underwhelming second half of the season, ultimately finishing 10th in the table.
Following confirmation of Hogg’s departure, the club captain held a press conference in which he outlined his desire to return to Huddersfield in some capacity.
He admitted his love for the Terriers, sharing how much he’d enjoy helping the team get back up the divisions again, having been a part of the team that earned Premier League promotion in 2017 under David Wagner.
“I do hope so (there’s another chapter), because everyone knows and I keep saying that the love for this club is massive,” said Hogg, via Yorkshire Live.
“It wouldn’t make me any more prouder to get the club back up in the leagues, and see the town thrive again, and the fans getting on board, and just building that culture that we had before.
“It was massive and unbelievable to be involved in, and I’d love everyone to get back to that again.”
With Hogg no longer part of the playing side of the club, there must be a role available for him elsewhere.
He has become a key figure in the modern history of Huddersfield, captaining the side for the last four years, and spending an impressive 12 years as a key part of the team.
Hogg was crucial to their Premier League promotion under Wagner, as well as their run to the play-off final under Carlos Corberan in 2022.
While it remains to be seen what the immediate future holds for Hogg, his return to Huddersfield at some point is inevitable.
