The Celts went to town against Aberdeen in the League Cup semi-final at Hampden and the ghost of that 10-minute slip at Celtic Park in the league when the Dons came back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 was laid to rest.
And it was laid to rest in some style as, even at 3-0 up, Brendan Rodgers, the main and most important critic in that SPFL clash was spurring his team on to even greater heights by demanding more of them.
The Pittodrie side couldn’t live with the twin flank attack as both Daizen Maeda with a hat-trick, and Nicolas Kuhn with another goal and a clutch of assists between them were unplayable at times.
Each of the six goals were worthy of the display, and Kuhn’s in particular was one for the video scrapbook on a night when the Celtic’s full repertoire of stylish goals was on display.
The German winger said: “I’m really happy, I think the chances we missed in the league, we made good here, so it was an unbelievable result and I’m just happy.
‘I think the counter-attack was pretty good, especially in the first half, and to score the early goals was important and we just kept going.’
“After we saw what happened with the 2-0 in the league, we just had to focus, and today we had to bring it over the line and that’s what we did.”
He said of the goal: “Arne played me the ball on the right side and I just went inside and I knew I was going to shoot, and I’m happy that it went in.”
Hat-trick Bhoy and Man of the Match, Daizen Maeda added: “First of all I’m happy to go through to the final as a team.
“It was a brilliant pitch and also brilliant supporters so I felt very comfortable.”
