Down year? What down year? Kylian Mbappé continues to roll on in his debut season with Real Madrid after hitting another brace for Los Blancos.
In the wake of Barcelona's comeback win at Real Valladolid yesterday evening, Carlo Ancelotti's outfit needed a response to keep their hopes alive of running down their bitter rivals at the top of the La Liga table, and the French superstar has delivered in kind.
After seeing Turkish youngster Arda GĂŒler open the scoring in the 33rd minute, MbappĂ© struck twice on either side of the halftime interval to all but guarantee the three points for Real Madrid on the day.
And with that, the former PSG ace eclipsed the 40-goal contributions mark in his first season in the Spanish capital while also becoming just the second player ever to score 35+ goals in year one, joining Chilean great Ivan Zamorano in the process while eclipsing the efforts of both Ronaldo Nazårio and Cristiano Ronaldo along the way.
They may be out of the Champions League, but Mbappé could still lead them to major honours in 2024/25.
