One game, one goal, one win, one trophy – it was a dream debut for Kylian Mbappe, who pulled on the Real Madrid shirt for the first time in a competitive fixture on Wednesday night. His contribution was key to their 2-0 win over Atalanta, which secured the European Supercup for a record sixth time for Los Blancos.

Speaking to CBS Sports after the match, he explained that it was a magical occasion in Warsaw.

“It’s a magical night, I always dreamed about this type of night, and now it’s a reality. Playing for this club, the best club in the world, it’s something crazy. I’m really happy to make my debut today, of course we won a trophy.”

“It’s really important to win a trophy, because everyone won here, and to score a goal, for a striker, to be there, to help my team is always a pleasure, and I hope to be there like this and to  improve to help the team more.”

Carlo Ancelotti selected Mbappe as part of a fluid front three alongside Rodrygo Goes and Vinicius Junior, with Jude Bellingham dropping deeper into midfield to help out Aurelien Tchouameni and Fede Valverde, who got the opening goal. Mbappe was asked about fitting into the system.

“It’s easy to play with them because they are great players, and all the players are great. This is Real Madrid, that’s why we are the greatest club in the world, because we have the best players. It’s a pleasure to play with Rodrygo, Vinicius, with Bellingham also, and all the guys there.”

Mbappe has already installed himself in Madrid, and had even sorted out a home months before arriving in the capital, but said that the welcome he had received was excellent.

“No, I arrived here, like I said before the day of my presentation. I arrive with humility, my personality, natural things, and I have to say thank you to all the guys at the club.”

“The coach, the staff, the players, everybody, because they helped me. My adaptation is so easy because they give me everything, they have helped me with everything, my house, everything in my life, so I just have to think about football. And that’s what I’m best for, just playing football.”

Mbappe will be back in action on Sunday evening at 21:30 CEST, as Real Madrid kick off their La Liga campaign with a trip to RCD Mallorca on the island. Madridistas must wait until Sunday the 25th to see him in action at the Santiago Bernabeu, when Los Blancos face Real Valladolid.
