According to a report by L’Équipe, Kylian Mbappé (25) should make his return to the France team in the upcoming international break. The France captain was reportedly reluctant to join the set-up in September and was controversially absent during the October international break.
Mbappé was left out of Didier Deschamps’ squad due to the pretext of a thigh injury he had picked up while playing for Real Madrid. This injury was supposed to rule him out of the entirety of the international break. However, he recovered enough to play for his club against Lille OSC in the Champions League on the eve of Deschamps’ squad announcement.
Mbappé also started for Madrid against Villarreal in the last game before the international break. This led Foot Mercato to report that Mbappé only wanted to play “important” for his national team to avoid picking up an injury and scuppering his chances at the 2025 Ballon d’Or. However, the forward should be included in Deschamps’ squad for the upcoming Nations League fixtures against Israel and Italy.
