La Liga and RFEF Presidents agree on pact to help USA game plan for Barcelona-Atletico Madrid | OneFootball

News broke on Thursday that La Liga were planning on hosting Barcelona’s home game on Matchday 18 against Atletico Madrid in Miami, Florida, although they are still to reach an agreement with the Player’s Association and the Royal Spanish Football Federation. La Liga President Javier Tebas has decided to push for the project, with FIFA set to soften the rules on hosting domestic games abroad.

Twice previously, Tebas has been thwarted in his idea, with then RFEF President Luis Rubiales getting in the way. Relevo report that Tebas now has a pact with his successor so that he will not do so. This is also shown in the fact that La Liga and the RFEF have agreed to halt legal proceedings against each other.

It is noted that both are currently facing major legal issues too, with Tebas under threat of suspension due to a court case on improper process, while Rocha is in a similar situation, and also faces elections in September to keep his position.

The battles between the RFEF and La Liga had been ongoing for a decade, with matters reaching a fever pitch during Rubiales’ tenure. At one point, Tebas and Rubiales were even locked in a room by and with the Sports Ministry to thrash out an agreement on scheduling after the pandemic.
