LAFC goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau undergoes surgery on fractured leg | OneFootball

LAFC have announced goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau suffered a fractured right leg during their MLS Cup victory over the Philadelphia Union on Saturday.

The Canada international sustained the injury while rushing out to stop Union forward Cory Burke from racing through on goal. Crepeau was also given a red card for bringing Burke down and denying a goalscoring opportunity.

Crepeau was stretchered off the field and, according to an LAFC press release, has since undergone successful surgery on his injury at Kaiser Permanente – Baldwin Park Medical Center on Sunday.

In Crepeau's absence, LAFC went 3-2 down but were able to claw themselves level with a dramatic 128th-minute goal from none other than Gareth Bale. Crepeau's replacement, John McCarthy, proved himself the hero in the penalty shootout, saving efforts from Jose Martinez and Kai Wagner to help the Black and Gold to a 3-0 victory.

LAFC are now MLS Cup champions for the first time, while they become just the eighth team in history to complete a Cup and Shield double and the first to do so since Toronto FC in 2017.
