With a crucial win over Atletico Madrid in their last league match, FC Barcelona significantly improved their image as the favorite team to win the La Liga title this season.

However, there is also no doubt that there are still a lot of matches left to be played, and with both the Madrid teams still hot on their heels in the league table, the Blaugranes will have to remain at their best level to ultimately emerge the winners in this tight race.

But among these two opponents, the Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal believed Real Madrid would be the one that puts up the real challenge to his team’s aspirations of winning La Liga. As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the young forward gave his opinion on the league race in a recent interview:

“La Liga will be decided in favor of the team that makes the fewest mistakes. Both Barça and Madrid are world-class teams that drop very few points and are in great form. I believe the Clásico in May at Montjuïc will be crucial… just as the one we played on Sunday at the Metropolitano against Atlético was.”

The youngster went on to highlight how even other, seemingly easier, games can also end up having a significant impact in such a tight race:

“Sometimes leagues are decided by games that slip away unexpectedly. It happened to us in December against Betis or Leganés. Had we won those, we’d have a comfortable lead now.”

In addition to La Liga, Yamal also talked about the UEFA Champions League:

“It’s a competition that has caught my attention since I was a child, ever since I heard the anthem on TV.”

Even in this competition, the Barcelona winger was looking forward to facing Real Madrid:

“As long as Barça is in the final, I don’t care about the opponent, but if it’s Madrid, that would make it even more special. It would be something unforgettable that we would all enjoy a lot… Right now, for any Barça fan, the Champions League is the most special title, but our goal is the treble. Now, if I have to choose, then the European Cup.”

There is no doubt that the Blaugrana team has the chance to win both of these big titles this season, and with the form they have shown up to now, their chances of winning the treble are also quite high.
