Speaking after the team’s La Liga title triumph, Barcelona president Joan Laporta has claimed that the club are in the 1:1 Financial Fair Play rule and will be able to sign players in the summer transfer window.

It must be remembered that the Blaugrana officially returned to the 1:1 rule back in January after they struck a deal for the sale of the VIP box seats at the new Spotify Camp Nou with a company from the Middle East.

However, La Liga revoked that status after the club’s latest audit report suggested that the €100 million should not be fully accounted for in this season’s finances because the asset – the new VIP seats – does not yet physically exist.

The construction company, Limak, have accelerated the construction of the VIP seats and the plan is to have them ready in the coming weeks, allowing Barcelona to revert to the 1:1 rule.

Now, Barcelona president Joan Laporta has made a major claim, suggesting that the club are already in the 1:1 salary ruling and can sign players in the summer.

“Of course we can sign, we are in the 1:1 rule and I hope it stays that way for many years. It’s true that we were very tight, so now what we have to do is work,” he said, as quoted by SPORT.

Laporta insisted that the VIP seats are already in place which will allow the Blaugrana to account for them, thus boosting their salary cap.

“They are already in place, yes, they can probably be accounted for this month, but it is important to remember that LaLiga sets the salary limit when it receives our budgets,” he noted.

“Deco has been preparing for next season for a long time,” he added.

Laporta admitted that operating in the transfer market will not be easy, but maintained a positive outlook.

“Yes, yes, we will be able to sign. Always with difficulties, because the Fair Play regulations are very, let’s say, ‘sui generis’.

“It is a regulation that is open to interpretation. We will have to keep fighting, it won’t be easy, but it will be nicer when we achieve it,” he concluded.
