The USA left it late but three goals in eight minutes saw the Stars and Stripes cruise past Trinidad and Tobago in the CONCACAF Nations League quarter-final first leg.
Scorers: Pepi 81′, Robinson 86′, Reyna 89′
The USA dominated the ball in the early going, probing the Trinidad defence.
But the probing did little for the hosts, who struggled to create any meaningful chances to open the scoring.
As they struggled to even get the ball in the attacking half of the pitch, it got worse for Trinidad and Tobago just before the break when Noah Powder was sent off for his second yellow card, leaving the visitors to fend off the final 50 minutes with ten men.
It took until the final 10 minutes, after knocking on the door repeatedly, for the USA to break the deadlock however.
Second half substitute Ricardo Pepi fired home from close range to open the scoring for the home side and, with it, the flood gates.
His strike was backed up by two more tallies late on for the Stars and Stripes, as Antonee Robinson and Gio Reyna stuck in their respective chances to all but end the tie in the first leg.
