Chelsea have spent big on a number of players in recent years, but there’s an acceptance within the club that one big money signing has been a failure so far according to reports.

Whilst the Blues were still busy in the market this summer their spending wasn’t as free flowing as it has been in recent windows, with the £51.4m forked out to sign Pedro Neto from Wolves the biggest outlay.

Whilst some signings such as Cole Palmer and Malo Gusto look like great business there’s others that are yet to have the impact expected of them.

Acceptance at Chelsea Mudryk signing has been a failure so far

One player who falls into that category is Mykhailo Mudryk who arrived for an initial £62.5m from Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023 after a very public transfer saga with Arsenal.

The 23-year-old had an electric debut against Liverpool, but that’s about as good as it got as he failed to register a goal contribution in his first six months at the club.

There were signs of improvement last year under Mauricio Pochettino with Mudryk showing more of what he could do as he scored five goals and provided two assists in 31 Premier League appearances.

Mudryk hasn’t lived up to expectations so far following his move to Chelsea.

However, it’s fair to say Mudryk hasn’t lived up to expectations so far during his time in west London and despite his obvious talent there are still a lot of flaws in his game, and Enzo Maresca has already said twice publicly that he expects more quality from the winger.

According to GIVEMESPORT there’s an acceptance within Chelsea the transfer has been a failure so far, highlighted by the fact the Blues have signed a further two wingers this summer in Neto and Jadon Sancho.

With the increased competition and arrival of South American talents Kendry Paez and Estevao Willian next summer it feels like a make or break season for Mudryk in terms of his Chelsea career.

The ideal scenario for Chelsea is he hits form and starts performing on a consistent basis, but if that doesn’t happen they may have to explore their options and potentially take a big hit on a player they invested heavily in.
