Lautaro Martinez: ‘Proud’ to have made history with Inter | OneFootball

Lautaro Martinez has expressed his pride in cementing a place in the Inter history books with last season’s historic 20th Serie A title win, and has said that he hopes to score plenty more goals for the Nerazzurri moving forwards after extending his contract with the club on Monday.

The Nerazzurri captain and last season’s Capocannoniere has extended his stay in San Siro until the summer of 2029. He is also set for a significant wage increase and now takes home a reported €9m per season on his new deal.

“The renewal means a lot, I am proud and grateful. I’d like to thank the directors at the club,” Lauttaro Martinez said in his customary interview with Inter’s media channels.

“After six years, still being here means a lot to me and my family, I am really happy and I want to get back to fighting and winning again. I want to give 100% in every game and to help my teammates by setting an example to follow.”

Martinez has recently returned to Italy after a busy summer, where he helped Argentina win the Copa America title. He finished the competition as the highest goalscorer and also netted the only goal in the victory over Colombia in the final back in June.

He believes that his growing family has helped him develop as a player as much as anybody else.

“I have grown a lot, on and off the pitch. Becoming a father has helped me mature a lot, having my family close by is so important. I work every day to try and give more. I try to improve consistently.

“Having scored so much makes me happy, but I want to score many more goals in this shirt. We have won a lot in the last few years, and the second star makes me proud because we have made history at this club.

“I want to thank all our fans, because they have always supported us, in every moment.”
