Igor Tudor and Juventus are set for a crunch match with Lazio on Saturday, with which the coach had an intense spell last season following Maurizio Sarri’s resignation. He achieved the goal of qualifying for the Europa League, finishing 7th thanks to 5 victories in 9 matches. However, he wasn’t confirmed because his relationship with the locker room quickly deteriorated and due to his transfer market demands, Corriere dello Sport informs.
The Croat accompanied Ciro Immobile and Luis Alberto at the door. The management was on the same page there. However, the gaffer also asked to sell Matteo Guendouzi, with whom he already butted heads at Olympique Marseille, Gustav Isaksen, Nicolò Rovella, because he wasn’t physical enough, Danilo Cataldi, and Manuel Lazzari. He didn’t consider them good fits for his style and scheme. Matteo Zaccagni wasn’t too happy either, as he often played as a wingback.
Rather than overhauling the squad, the Lazio brass parted ways with Tudor and brought in Marco Baroni from Verona. The only loss came in the most important tilt, the Derby, where his lineup choices were questionable.
The tension became palpable down the stretch. For instance, Guendouzi shouted in the boss’s face after providing an assist against Juventus after beginning unexpectedly on the bench.
The game doesn’t need extra motivation given what’s at stake already, but the Biancocelesti will have an extra pep in their step. It’ll be interesting to see whether he’ll have similar requests if the Old Lady starts considering sticking with him. The squad is more suitable to his go-to formation, but it’s surely perfectible. However, Bianconeri don’t need another revolution that would set them back a year.
