Lazio have reportedly held a meeting with the entourage of Luca Pellegrini as they look to rectify the relationship with the estranged player.
The full-back earned considerable playing time during the first half of the season, but has been recently excluded from both Serie A and Europa League squad lists for the second half of the campaign. Lazio coach Marco Baroni justified the call by citing the player’s lack of effort in training, but kept the door open for a possible return to the fold.
According to Il Messaggero (via Calciomercato), the Biancocelesti directors held a meeting with Pellegrini’s representatives at the club’s sports centre in Formello with both parties determined to restore peace.
But as the source explains, the chances of an immediate reinstatement remain remote, as Baroni would like to preserve the integrity of the squad. Hence, the left-back still has a long way to go before returning to the manager’s good graces.
It should be noted that the Serie A regulations allow clubs to make a couple of changes to their lists before March 31st. Baroni added Elseid Hysaj and Toma Basic to the squad, but the Croatian midfielder has yet to feature in a competitive fixture, so he’s arguably the most likely player to be dropped in case Pellegrini were to be recalled.
