Lazio have lost Nuno Tavares to a potentially serious muscular injury during their Europa League match with Real Sociedad.

It had all been going swimmingly for the Aquile at the Stadio Olimpico this evening, as they were 3-0 up and cruising against 10 men with goals from Mario Gila, Taty Castellanos and Mattia Zaccagni.

Nuno Tavares was running to the by-line when he suddenly pulled up in pain, clutching the top of his left thigh.

Initial reports point to an adductor issue and he hobbled off the field, replaced by Fisayo Dele-Bashiru just before half-time.

Coach Marco Baroni was already short on players in defence anyway, because Luca Pellegrini and Samuel Gigot sat out bans, with Manuel Lazzari, Patric and Matias Vecino injured.

Elseid Hysaj, Toma Basic, Gaetano Castrovilli and new signing Arjon Ibrahimovic are also ineligible for Europa League competition.

It remains to be seen how serious the injury is and whether Nuno Tavares managed to stop before making it worse, but it is very unlikely he can be fit for this weekend in Serie A against Fiorentina.
