Lazio are anxious about the condition of Boulaye Dia who sprained his ankle during Sunday’s victory over Monza.
The 28-year-old was in the starting lineup, supporting Taty Castellanos upfront. But shortly following Adam Marusic’s opener, he picked up a knock as he came off worse from his duel with Armando Izzo, and was subsequently replaced by Pedro who went on to score twice in the 5-1 win.
After the contest, Lazio coach Marco Baroni provided some reassuring updates on Dia. The manager revealed that the Senegalese’s ankle didn’t swell, and that his exit was merely precautionary.
However, Il Corriere dello Sport (via La Lazio Siamo Noi) insists that the striker’s condition remains a source of concern for the club, especially with a big clash against Napoli coming up on Saturday. As the Roman newspaper explains, Dia will be closely monitored over the next few days, and the decision over his inclusion will likely be made following the last training session before the contest.
The source believes that Pedro would be the natural profile to replace the former Salernitana man in the starting lineup, especially following his outstanding cameo against Monza. Nevertheless, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru is a viable alternative, as he too managed to score from the bench. The Nigerian would arguably provide greater balance in midfield.
CdS also leaves the door open for a potential switch to 4-3-3, with Guendouzi and Dele-Bashiru acting as box-to-box midfielders while Nicolo Rovella pulls the strings in the Regista role.
