Leeds United have reportedly ‘made an offer’ to Real Madrid striker Mariano Diaz, while they have also registered an interest in another Los Blancos star, Raul Asencio.
Victor Orta is thought to have some ambitious plans this summer. However, the Whites’ transfer business will depend on whether they can avoid relegation.
A double swoop for Diaz and Asencio would be an eye-catching swoop, though, so this could be one to keep an eye on in the coming months.
Leeds, as it stands, sit in 16th place in the Premier League table, just one point adrift from the bottom three.
Indeed, while Southampton are in serious danger, it will be a battle between Everton, Leicester City, Nottingham Forest and Leeds to avert the drop.
Nevertheless, The Whites’ sporting director Orta has some ambitious transfer plans and could look to bring in two Real Madrid stars.
As noted by TEAMtalk, citing reports from Defensa Central, Leeds have ‘made an offer’ for Diaz.
The centre-forward only has 50 LaLiga appearances to his name since 2018, after failing to pip Karim Benzema to a starting spot.
Diaz’s contract at the Bernabeu is set to expire at the end of the season, meaning he will be available on a free transfer.
The Whites have reportedly offered Diaz a contract in line with his current €4.5m annual salary – but only if they can remain in the Premier League.
In other words, Leeds could pay the striker more than £76,000 per week as long as they avoid relegation.
However, as mentioned, he is not the only Real Madrid player Orta is interested in signing this summer.
As per a report from CaughtOffisde, Leeds are preparing to rival West Ham United for Asencio in the upcoming transfer window.
The 20-year-old centre-back is widely touted to become a top player in the future, so could prove to be an excellent long term investment for the Whites.
Real Madrid are believed to think very fondly about Asencio. But, there is a fear that the youngster could push for a summer departure to secure more senior opportunities next season.
With the defender’s contract set to expire in 2024, he could be available for as little as £1m this summer.
However, Leeds and West Ham are not the only teams targeting Asencio, with Espanyol also registering an interest in the Real Madrid prospect.
With that in mind, Orta has a real chance of bringing in two Los Blancos stars this summer – but only if they can stay in the Premier League.
