Leeds ordered to pay €27.9m to Jean-Kévin Augustin by FIFA ruling | OneFootball

The Athletic report that a FIFA’s Dispute Resolution Chamber has ruled that Leeds are to pay French striker Jean-Kévin Augustin €27.9m over a breach of contract, a decision against which the Premier League club have appealed. According to the outlet, the sum may be based on the full payment of a five-year contract on wages of €90,000 per week.

Augustin had spent the second half of the 2019/20 season on loan at Elland Road from RB Leipzig – making 3 appearances in total – and the move was not made permanent amid controversial circumstances, with Leeds’ promotion to the Premier League having reportedly triggered an obligation to buy. This led to a transfer dispute with the Bundesliga outfit, a settlement having been found in December of last year.

The former French youth international then moved to Nantes, where his appearances were few and far between as he trained with the reserves, having suffered from depression and long Covid-19. He joined Basel on a free transfer this summer, and has found the net four times for the Swiss outfit so far.
