According to A Bola, Leeds United are in contention to sign Jovane Cabral. The Sporting CP winger is expected to leave the club in the summer, with the club ready to cash in on him for a fee of just €15 million. Leeds United are among the clubs interested in his services, although the Whites are set to face stiff competition from league rivals West Ham, Southampton and Watford.
Jovane Cabral is a native of the African island nation of Cape Verde. He joined the Sporting academy in 2017, enjoying a swift rise to prominence since then, before getting promoted to the senior side in 2018.
Cabral is yet to establish himself as a first-team regular at Sporting as he has not exceeded over 1,100 minutes of league action in any of his three professional seasons. However, the attacker has offered impressive productivity in the limited opportunities he has received, notching up 18 goals and 16 assists in 80 competitive appearances.
In addition to his productivity, Cabral is known for his proficiency in long-range. He can shoot from distance as well and has an eye for defence threading passes – making him a lethal force going forward.
Despite being a left-winger by trade, the 23-year-old is a versatile player. He can operate on both flanks and even as a centre forward, if required. It combines well with his healthy knack for scoring goals, with the player now attracting suitors from abroad.
Jovane Cabral appears to be an excellent impact player, judging by his record at Sporting CP. He can offer dynamism going forward and has the necessary skill from long range which can make him an effective forward for Leeds United.
The Whites themselves are looking for reinforcements in the attacking department this summer. Helder Costa and Tyler Roberts are already facing an uncertain future at the club while Pablo Hernandez has left the club after years of service.
That is where Cabral could turn out to be the key. He can offer backup to the likes of Jack Harrison and Raphinha while adding more competition for Patrick Bamford upfront. Not to mention, the 23-year-old can be utilised as a super-sub as well, thus adding further depth at Marcelo Bielsa’s disposal.
Cabral, therefore, could be a smart investment. The forward has shown his ability to perform during his time at Sporting, despite his lack of game-time. At the age of 23, the attacker also has the potential to improve and for a fee of just €15 million, he could indeed be a viable target for Leeds United.
