It doesn't look as though Wober will be making a return to his former club during the January transfer window.
A move for Leeds United defender Max Wober back to his former club Red Bull Salzburg isn't in the pipeline at this point.
This is according to journalist Peter Linden (via Sport Witness), with the Austria international not looking set to move back to his old team despite the fact he hasn't featured much at all for Leeds this term.
He has often been kept out of the starting lineup by the likes of Pascal Struijk and Joe Rodon - and even in the absence of Ethan Ampadu - he hasn't been able to win too much game time in recent months.
A spot has opened up for him at full-back, with Junior Firpo set to spend a spell on the sidelines, but it remains to be seen how long he can retain his place.
Coming on against Derby County last weekend, he was able to get himself on the scoresheet in a 2-0 win against the Rams, and he also started against Middlesbrough in midweek.
He may have scored an own goal against Boro, but his team were still able to come out on top and the fact he won a start came as a big boost for him.
The only other start he had made this season was against the same team in the EFL Cup.
He will be hoping to use his latest appearance to establish himself as a key first-teamer under Daniel Farke, something he has been unable to do up to this point.
It has been reported by Linden that the 26-year-old's chances of returning to Salzburg have "diminished in recent days".
Red Bull may have shares in Leeds, but it's believed that this won't help to reduce his price tag.
Two other factors that are working against Salzburg is the fact Leeds could be in the Premier League next season, leaving Wober wondering whether it would be worth making the move back to Austria at this point.
As well as this, his contract would become more lucrative than it already is if they are promoted, so the defender may be willing to wait until the end of the season before making a decision on his future.
Borussia Monchengladbach, the club Wober was on loan at last season, couldn't meet Leeds' financial demands for a permanent deal and other sides could potentially be put off by the Whites' demands.
Leeds need as much depth as possible during the second half of the season.
And having Wober, who can operate both in central defence and at full-back, could be a great option for the Whites.
They don't have enough depth in central defence as it is, especially when Ampadu plays in midfield, so cashing in on Wober during the January window would be foolish unless they have targets lined up.
But Farke will be keen not to rock the boat too much and cashing in on the Austrian may not be a good option at this point.
He could also provide strength in depth if Leeds are promoted at the end of the season, so he may be worth retaining.
