Summerville took to social media to back Gnonto after his goal against the Sky Blues.
Former Leeds United player Crysencio Summerville issued a message to former teammate Willy Gnonto following the Whites' 3-0 win against Coventry City on Saturday.
Replying to Gnonto's post on Instagram, Summerville said it was the Italian's time to shine, having endured a mixed 2023/24 campaign.
Coming into Saturday's game, Daniel Farke's side were looking to build some momentum following their 2-0 win away at Cardiff City.
Although that win produced a valuable three points, the Whites came up against a side that have won just one point from their opening seven league games, and they needed to build on this victory in the Welsh capital.
They didn't face an easy assignment last weekend though, with the Sky Blues failing to pick up many points during the early stages of the season, but having the calibre of players needed to cause the Whites a few problems.
However, it proved to be a good afternoon for Leeds in the end, with Gnonto scoring his second goal of the season to make it 1-0 in the 16th minute.
His perfectly controlled strike gave the hosts a platform to build on - and they struck early in the second half through Jayden Bogle to make it 2-0.
Joel Piroe added a third in the 79th minute to seal the points - and it proved to be a very good afternoon for the West Yorkshire side - who showed real quality during the game.
Mark Robins could come under major pressure after another defeat. Farke, on the other end of the scale, will be delighted with what he saw.
Gnonto will be delighted with his goal against Robins' side, taking it very well and showing other teams the talent he has.
This season could be the campaign where he really shines - and Summerville believes it's his time to make a real impact.
With Gnonto making a slow start to the 2023/24 campaign due to his transfer saga and injury issues, that prevented him from making more of an impact last term.
However, he was able to recover from this and record a decent number of goalscoring contributions.
This season, without the transfer saga, and managing to remain fit so far, Gnonto really has an opportunity to push on and it feels as though this term could be extremely crucial for him.
He needs to show why he should be competing at a higher level this term - and his two goals so far showcase the potential that he has.
After a decent start to the campaign, he can't get complacent. The Italian simply has to build on it and he has the opportunity to establish himself as the Whites' most important player, after the departure of Summerville.
