Salford City have confirmed that they have completed the signing of Leeds United midfielder Robbie Gotts on loan for the remainder of the 2020/21 season.

Gotts has struggled for regular game time with Leeds, and spent the first-half of the season with League One side Lincoln City.

The 21-year-old made 12 appearances in total for the Imps, but has now dropped down to League Two for the 2020/21 season, and will be eager to play his part in Salford City’s push for promotion into the third-tier.

The Ammies are currently sat fifth in the League Two table after their opening 22 matches of this year’s campaign, and they’ll be hoping they can put together a positive run of results in the second-half of the season.

Gotts spoke out on his move to Salford City, and revealed that there has been previous talk with Salford boss Richie Wellens of him making the move to the Peninsula Stadium.

“I’m really looking forward to it, as soon as the club was interested really I think that was my main priority to come here.

“The manager spoke to me, there’s been previous conversation before and I’m just really happy to be here.”

Ammies boss Richie Wellens was delighted to secure an agreement to sign Gotts on a temporary basis, and outlined the attributes that he’ll bring to his team.

“He’s got loads and loads of energy and I think he will complement the other midfielders very well, he comes fresh from a loan spell at Lincoln who are flying, and comes with a good recommendation.”

Salford City are set to return to action this weekend, when they take on promotion-chasing rivals Newport County, in what is likely to be a tricky test for Gotts and his team-mates.

The Verdict:

I think this is a smart signing by the Ammies.

Gotts is going to be eager to prove himself in senior football, as he looks to prove himself to the Leeds United coaches ahead of the summer.

He’s played his part in Lincoln City’s impressive start to the 2020/21 season, and I’m surprised that Leeds are willing to see him drop down to League Two for the remainder of this year’s campaign.

I expect him to do well with Salford, and can see him playing an important role in their bid for promotion this term.
