Leeds United attacker Georginio Rutter looks set to be the subject of summer bids if his side aren't promoted at the end of the season, according to a report from Football Insider.

He initially struggled at Elland Road, coming in during the winter window last year but failing to live up to his price tag and being unable to keep the Whites in the Premier League at the end of last term.

With Rutter getting off to a bad start, it was unclear whether he was going to stay and if he did, how he would do under Daniel Farke in the Championship.

But the Frenchman has done a great job, staying put at Elland Road and playing a considerable part in the West Yorkshire side's rise to the top of the table.

Registering seven goals and 18 assists in 42 competitive appearances this term, the 21-year-old has arguably done enough to put himself in the shop window ahead of the summer.

But the Whites are in a strong negotiating position, with the player's contract at Elland Road not expiring until the summer of 2028.

Even though Leeds are in a strong negotiating position with Rutter, the Whites may be forced to cash in on some players during the summer window if they don't secure a return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Following last night's win against Hull City, they have climbed above Leicester City again and are strong contenders for automatic promotion.

But nothing is guaranteed at this point, especially with the Foxes managing to get themselves back on track with a win in yesterday's early kick-off.

And if they don't go up, Rutter could be a man that attracts bids.

Speaking about Leeds' potential vulnerability if they don't go up, Pete O'Rourke said on Football Insider's Inside Track podcast: "If Leeds do miss out on promotion, there will be interest in Rutter and other top players at the club.

"The likes of Gnonto and Summerville will also be wanted elsewhere if that is the case.

"There’s so much up in the air in this race for promotion.

"If they do miss out, there will be interest – and that’s the difference when you’re not playing at the highest level.

"Leeds would find themselves susceptible to offers for their star players if they don’t go up."

Leeds United can afford to take a firm stance on Georginio Rutter

Even if Leeds aren't promoted and they need to cash in on players, there are others they can sell.

Crysencio Summerville looks certain to go if promotion isn't achieved, considering how excellent he has been this season.

Willy Gnonto is another player who may attract interest after managing to raise his game in recent months.

With this in mind, as well as the fact his contract doesn't expire anytime soon, Leeds can afford to take a firm stance on Rutter.
