It has been reported that Olympique de Marseille have overtaken Leeds United in the race to sign Israel international attacker Manor Solomon.
Leeds United are embarking upon what is set to be an extremely busy summer transfer window but one key target, Manor Solomon, is now looking likelier to move to Olympique de Marseille.
Leeds gained automatic promotion to the Premier League on Easter Monday before clinching the Championship title on the final day of the season with Daniel Farke now set to be backed with £150 million worth of spending power in the summer transfer window.
One of their key targets for the summer was expected to be Israel international Manor Solomon, who spent the season on loan at Elland Road from Tottenham Hotspur and scored their winner on the final day against Plymouth Argyle to see off Burnley at the top-of-the-table on goal difference.
However, as Leeds move into the summer with ambitions of establishing themselves as a Premier League stalwart once again, they appear to have fallen behind in the race to sign the 25-year-old.
According to Sky Sports journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Olympique de Marseille have shown major interest in Solomon and the Israeli attacker has given the “green light” to Marseille over a potential move to the south of France.
It has been reported by Tavolieri that Marseille have sent scouts to watch the former Shakhtar Donetsk man throughout the campaign and that they now lead the race for his signature.
It is also reported that his parent club Tottenham would want £16.86 million (20 million euros) for the attacker who they signed on a free transfer in the summer of 2023.
What could hasten the arrival of Solomon to the Stade Velodrome is that Marseille are set to sell winger Luis Henrique to Internazionale for around £21 million.
On the penultimate match day of the 2024/25 Ligue 1 campaign at the weekend, Marseille secured automatic qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League league phase with a 3-1 defeat of Le Havre at Stade Oceane.
Solomon was one of three players for Leeds, alongside Joel Piroe and Daniel James, to reach double figures for goals in this season’s title winning Championship campaign as he notched ten strikes in 39 second-tier appearances.
Solomon is not the only reported Leeds target that may not now be joining the club with the Whites dealt a couple of other blows in their early summer recruitment drive in the last few days.
It has been reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post that a deal for Everton striker Beto is now deemed unlikely, whilst Sporting CP are said to have re-entered negotiations with Leeds target Hidemasa Morita over a new contract to remain at Estadio Jose Alvalade.
Farke has been given £150 million to spend this summer according to Football Insider with as many as ten new signings apparently wanted by the Yorkshire giants to strengthen their squad.
